Local to Pittsburgh

We connect property owners in Pittsburgh and nearby areas, including Mount Washington, Polish Hill, Spring Hill, Lincoln Place, Bon Air and Lawrenceville, with one independent local foundation repair specialist.

Pittsburgh is a city of hills, rivers and old houses. What goes wrong with a foundation depends a lot on where the house sits. Hillside streets deal with soil that pushes and slides. River and creek towns deal with high water and sewer backups. Older neighborhoods deal with tired block, brick and stone walls. Here are some of the places we help, and what we see in each.

Do not see your neighborhood? We likely still cover it. Call (412) 990-2570 and we will tell you right away.

Mount Washington, PA

Mount Washington sits on one of the steepest slopes in the city. In 2022 the city put $14 million into hillside fixes, including an $8.6 million FEMA grant for Mount Washington, and a $10 million slide repair on William Street began in 2024. Uphill basement walls here carry a lot of soil.

Polish Hill, PA

Polish Hill homes are packed onto a steep slope. The city set aside $2.3 million in 2023 to fix a slope failure on Ruthven Street. On streets this steep, drainage is part of almost every foundation fix.

Spring Hill, PA

In February 2018, six homes on Goehring Street and Kenzig Avenue in Spring Hill were evacuated after a landslide during a very wet winter. Hillside homes here should watch for cracks in the yard and leaning walls.

Lincoln Place, PA

In October 2023, an old mine collapsed under part of Lincoln Place near Interboro Avenue. At least seven homes had foundation cracks, and the state drilled under ten buildings to fill the ground with grout. Sudden new cracks here are worth a fast call.

Bon Air, PA

In January 2019, most of one Bon Air backyard slid about 70 feet into a gully behind a 1954 house, and insurance did not cover it. Slopes behind homes here need good drainage and a close eye after heavy rain.

Lawrenceville, PA

Lawrenceville is full of narrow row houses, many built from the 1830s to the early 1900s. Shared walls and tight lots leave little room to dig outside, so inside drains and inside bracing are common fixes.

Millvale, PA

Millvale was one of the hardest-hit towns when Hurricane Ivan's rain hit in 2004 and Girty's Run spilled over its banks. Low basements near the creek often need both waterproofing and sewer backup protection.

Shaler, PA

After Hurricane Ida in 2021, Shaler homes along Little Pine Creek cleaned up from major flooding for the fourth time in 15 years. Much of the basement water came from backed-up sewer lines, so backup valves matter here.

Penn Hills, PA

In March 2018, a slide that started in backyards on Westminster Drive sent debris into a home on Bramble Street, and three Penn Hills homes were condemned. Hillside lots here need water carried well away from the house.

Moon Township, PA

In January 2024, snowmelt and heavy rain set off a slide above Beaver Grade Road in Moon Township, and two families had to leave their homes. Newer hillside homes can be at risk too, not just old ones.

Bethel Park, PA

State mine maps show Bethel Park is undermined by the Pittsburgh coal seam. Since January 2025, home sellers here also need a sewer dye test and a camera check of the sewer line before the deed can transfer.

Dormont, PA

Dormont grew fast after it became a borough in 1909, once the streetcar tunnel and the Liberty Tunnels opened. Many homes date to the 1910s and 1920s and have aging block and brick basements.

Hays, PA

Hays sits along the Monongahela River on the 100-year floodplain. Low basements near the river are at higher risk of water during big storms and high water.

Homewood, PA

Basements in Homewood are prone to flooding from the Negley Run watershed, and researchers have studied wet basements here. Gutters, grading and an inside drain are often the first fixes.
